Woodworking for Fun! Sharing the Wood Crafts!
Growing up on a farm in the mid-west I was always building things, fixing things, and growing things! Only recently have I started woodworking and wood turning. It is easy to see why learning to turn wood becomes a passion for the artist.
My exposure to wood turning, bowls and pens, was when visiting my friend Beaux James, a wounded warrior in the Marine Corp, at Camp Pendleton, CA. He took me to his garage where he had a chunk of maple wood and proceeded to show me how to turn a bowl. Wood turning was one of many ways the Marine Corp helped to re-acclimate him into civilian life. Since then, I have taken learning to turn classes at University of Wisconsin- Platteville, and am now a member of the Harry Nohr Wood-turners Club at the University. A recent project of the club was to turn wooden bowls from the trees that were destroyed in the tornado that swept through the campus last July, 2014. I submitted a bowl which will be on display along with many others and will be auctioned off to the public. The funds will benefit student scholarships for UW-Platteville students.
Other hobbies include gardening and landscaping.
